The third most important multi-stage race after The Tour and Giro d'Italia. The Vuelta, a three week of grueling 2,045-mile classic started in the port city of Vigo, Spain yesterday. Lampre-Fondital rider Daniele Bennati captured the first stage of the 95-mile course in 3 hours, 43 minutes, 9 seconds followed by Oscar Freire of Rabobank and Alessandro Petacchi.
